I was mesmerized by the intricate artwork adorning the ceilings and interiors of domes within mosques, historical buildings, and palaces in Iran. This particular interior is from the Shah Mosque, now known as Imam Mosque in Esfahan. This UNESCO World Heritage site along the Naqsh-e Jahan Square features 7-color mosaic tiles and is considered a masterpiece of Persian Architecture from the Safavid Dynasty. The polychromatic tiles are intended to give the spectator a sense of heavenly transcendence.
